Maybe you consider the best smartwatches to be all made from one manufacturer, Ticwatch for example. In this article, we are going to discuss the importance of the waterproof feature to look at the best smartwatches for swimming (if you’d not already guessed by the title)

What do we mean by Waterproof Smartwatch?

When we say that a smartwatch is waterproof it means that it can get wet by showering or if you are into sports then maybe you will want to track your swimming at a local pool. If the smartwatch is waterproof then all these things will be possible without damage to your prized possession on your wrist.

What are other benefits of having a Waterproof Smartwatch?

If you want to just wear a smartwatch because it looks good and never attempting to learn about its features and uses then its pointless, but having a Waterproof smartwatch is different. Maybe you never even plan to go swimming or shower wearing your smartwatch but just like the added peace of mind that having a waterproof smartwatch brings when it comes to getting caught in the rain or falling into the sea off a cliff (only kidding, but you get the idea)

Our Top 5 Swimming Smartwatches

Here I will list the top 5 smartwatches that don’t mind getting wet and help with heart rate, Performance and even track speed, distance and calories burned.

  1. Garmin Vivoactive 4
  2. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2
  3. Apple Series 6
  4. Fitbit Versa 2
  5. Amazfit GTS

1.   Garmin Vivoactive 4

vivoactive4

The Garmin Vivoactive 4 is a great all-round sport watch that really does excel in the category of sports tracking as you would come to expect from Garmin. The waterproof features of this smartwatch allow you to get serious with health tracking even if swimming is your chosen activity as it is resistance to 5ATM. It has built-in GPS and will monitor your heart rate, stress levels, mileage covered, pace, and various other statistics dependent on which of the many pre-set workouts you have chosen to track.

Like most Garmin smartwatches most of the fun is reviewing that collected data after the workout or swim. In Garmin connect which is the app, there is even a dedicated swim section which shows tons of data such as length of time, pace, stroke, speed, temperature and more.

2.   Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2

active 2 front

The Samsung Galaxy Watch is water-resistant up to 50 metres. This enables you to do all your desired wet fitness activities that you desire. This smartwatch is great for the pool and open water whereas some watches like the Garmin above is only for pool use. After your swim or workout, the Active 2 offers rich data collection in the app to be reviewed to your heart’s desire and try to see where you can improve your workout.

The Active 2 watch is not the most recent model as that is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, but the active 2 is slimmer and is better for training in the pool in our opinion. If you have an Android device or am not sure of the Apple watch series then this is probably the watch for you.

3.   Apple Series 6

appleseries6 1

The Apple Series 6 is ready whenever you are. If it is the open water swim or in the pool just select on the option you want and the Series 6 will track lengths, stroke and speed. By turning the bezel you can select the target that you want to track, either time or calories then the watch will track you to our goal. Once you start swimming in water the watch automatically locks to prevent accidental taps to the touch screen, just unlock the screen to use it again.

The waterproof feature of this smartwatch is only just a touch on the surface that this watch can do as it can also track heart rate, blood oxygen levels, Sleep tracking, ECG on your wrist and the always-on Retina display screen make this a great all-rounder.

4.   Fitbit Versa 2

fitbit versa 2

The Fitbit Versa 2 is a smaller watch in the Fitbit range which might appeal to people who might want to track swims and wear the watch in the pool. Although this watch is smaller and slimmer than the Fitbit Ionic or Sense it still has all the same water tracking features such as lengths, distance covered and workout duration on the touch screen.

It does, however, lack the SWOLF data that the data-hungry swimmers desire but all that said it is still a great watch for beginners or someone who is not bothered about that information. SWOLF is a swimming efficiency test which simply put is a measure of time against the number of strokes for a given distance. The fewer strokes and less time the more efficient swimmer you are.
With 4-5 days of battery life, Alexa support and Fitbit Pay, this is still a great smartwatch. For more information about the Fitbit Versa 2 check out the link here

5.   Amazfit GTS

amazfitgts

Not everyone will have heard of the Amazfit GTS but this Chinese manufacturer, Huami also makes the Xiaomi Mi Band but the GTS is the best model to take to the pool. The Amazfit GTS is very good for the price compared to the upper end of the market watches already reviewed but still, it has the options of pool swim or open water. It can track pace, stroke, distance and SWOLF

The data is logged in the Amazfit App which can be synced to Strava and with 14-day battery life, this watch will be there when you need it not on the bedside charging which is amazing as it has an always-on feature which will obviously lower this. The GTS does look like a more quality smartwatch with the 9.4mm thick design and with the AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass 3 anti-scratch it really does look the part.
If you are on a limited budget and still want all the tracking features then this is certainly a smartwatch to consider.
